These steps are rooted firmly in God's Word: the prodigal son went through a process parallel to the first five steps; The Rich young Ruler failed to take Step Six; When wealthy Zacchaeus laid out a plan for restitution, he took Step Eight.
It is the premise of this book that the steps are take people from self -centered to God-centered. This self-centeredness might manifest itself in any number of addictive behaviors that include food, controlling others, sex, drugs, gossip, alcohol, gambling, the list goes on. through admission of powerlessness, Christians and non-Christians may come together in small groups and grow closer to the Lord as they journey through the steps.
